Proximity Theology of Mission: Hinduism in America and the Western Church
This book introduces a fresh “proximity-based” approach to Christian mission in the context of Hinduism in America and the Western Church. It argues that global migration has brought religious communities into close everyday contact, requiring a rethink of traditional mission methods. The book highlights how social, cultural, and relational proximity often shape the effectiveness of engagement more than shared ethnicity or language, and it calls attention to the complexities within Indian social structures that can affect cross-cultural outreach. It also examines the growing presence and influence of Hindu ideas in Western society, including interest in practices like yoga and related philosophies. Overall, the book challenges the church to recognize mission opportunities within its own neighborhoods and to engage thoughtfully, respectfully, and confidently with Hindu communities while remaining grounded in the Christian message.
